Professional curicullum vitae

Prof. RNDr. Jana Zvárová, DrSc. has delivered presentations and published internationally since 1969 on medical informatics and statistics issues. She is a full professor of Charles University, a doctor of sciences of the Academy of Sciences CR and a representative of the Czech Republic in the International Medical Informatics Association (IMIA) and European Federation for Medical Informatics (EFMI). In both these international organizations she has been involved in activities of working groups on medical informatics and education and in scientific or world organization committees of MEDINFO and European MIE congresses and working conferences. She has significant professional participation in national and international initiatives in medical informatics and statistics, especially in the field of data analysis, decision support systems, information theory and higher education and continuing education using new information technology. She was one of three editors of "Diagnostic Strategies and Expert Systems" published by the North Holland (1986) and one of two editors of "Knowledge, Information and Medical Education" published by the North Holland (1991) . She has been actively involved in several European Commission projects and she has participated as a member of the editorial board of the International Journal for Medical Informatics and Methods of Information in Medicine and as the chief editor of the Czech journal "Physician and Technology". Since 2001 she has been a chairwoman of the subject board for biomedical fields (Charles University) and Stochastic genetics (Charles University 2001)

Experience record


Research interests


Study of association measurement, especially information measurements of statistical dependence and their statistical properties. Application of theoretical results into the medical/health problems, especially in connection with selection and extraction of features for decision support in medicine. Study of new approaches to data analyses and association of risk factors and study of population and family diseases. Research of decision support under uncertainty and testing of programme prototypes in selected medical fields. She has been a supervisor of many dissertation and diploma theses on this topic. She has participated in many Czech and international research projects. She has been a scientific coordinator of 2 European projects and she has worked on 3 European projects as a resolver.
