Curriculum Vitae

Vendula Papíková graduated from the 1st Faculty of Medicine of Charles University in Prague (Czech Republic) in 1992. She passed a specialisation examination in internal medicine (1996) and clinical chemistry (2000). She worked as a medical doctor at several clinics and as an assistant professor at the 2nd Department of Medical Chemistry and Biochemistry of Charles University in Prague. Between 1997 and 1999, she worked as a safety manager and scientific medical information consultant for Ferring-Léčiva, a.s., a pharmaceutical company. During a short-term internship at several US universities, she focused on diagnostics of inherited metabolic diseases and evidence-based medicine. Since 2006, she has been working at the Department of Medical Informatics of the Institute of Computer Science, Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. She has also been studying as a post-graduate student at the Institute of Information and Library Sciences at the Faculty of Philosophy and Arts, Charles University, Prague in the field of Information Science.
She specialises in evidence-based medicine, information sources for medicine and related areas, research of scientific medical information, and the use of the Internet in biomedical fields. Her long-term interests also include the influence of nutrition, food quality, environment, and lifestyle on human health. She has published articles for both specialist and non-specialist readership; she also co-edited the Practical Dictionary of Medicine (Praktický slovník medicíny, Maxdorf Publishing House). She prepared medical chemistry and biochemistry study texts for medical students.
She is a member of the Internal Medicine Society; the Society of Clinical Biochemistry; the Society of Clinical Nutrition and Intensive Metabolic Care of the Czech Medical Society of Jan Evangelista Purkyně; the Society for Nutrition; the Czech Medical Chamber; and the editorial board of the Děti a my journal, a journal for parents, teachers, specialists in helping professions, and other professionals working with children and young people.
