Clinical activities:

Cardiologic ambulatory activities, clinical examinations, visits of bed wards including coronary units, work in a catheterization laboratory: right-sided and left-sided diagnostics catheterization, biopsy of myocardium, interventional treatment methods (coronary angioplasty, stents), angioscopic examinations of coronary arteries.


Research activities:

Since 1972 he has participated in several topical areas, some of them are solved in research grant projects (see thereinafter). Research topics: metabolic aspects of coronary cardiomyopathies (in cooperation with prof. Kolbelem, DrSc.), postinfarction heart aneurysms, hemodynamics and prognosis (in cooperation with MUDr.Ježkem,DrSc.), long term prognosis of patients with CAD and after cardiac infarction in correlation with coronarographics and ventriculographics findings (in cooperation with MUDr.Ježek,DrSc.), variant angina pectoris, metabolic aspects, prognosis (in cooperation with MUDr. Bultas, CSc.), trombolytic therapy of acute myocardial infarction, silent myocardial ischemia (a responsible resolver of the grant IGA Z 285/0496-3 during the years 1991-1993), percutaneous coronary angioplasty, new treatment methods of ischemic heart disease, hibernating myocardium (a responsible resolver of the grant grantu IGA 2237-3 during the years 1994-1996), coronary angioplasty after an implantation of stents (a responsible resolver of the grant IGA 3577-3 during the years 1996-1998).


Scholarships:

1983, 1984 - 4 and 2 months - a cardiologic department of the University Hospital, Aarhus, Denmark, specialization: work in a cathetrization laboratory, origins of coronary angioplasties, 2 publications from this stay.

1991 - 3 months, Texas Heart Institute, Houston, Texas, USA, specialization: quantitative evaluation of coronarography, intravascular ultrasound, 4 publications.

1993-1994 - one year at Cornell University Medical Center, New York Hospital, USA, specilization: a long-term prognosis of patients with aortal disorders, prognostic studies of patients with an ischemic heart disease, one publication, 2 lectures on congresses of American Heart Association.

1998 - 3 months, Texas Heart Institute, Houston, Texas, USA, specialization - new prevention methods of restenosy in stens.


Publications:

more than 225 of scientific papers, 74 of them as the first author, 20 in an international literature. 4 monographs, chapters in other 6 monographs, a co-author of 3 textbooks, chapters in the textbook Internal Medicine (a part Cardiology).


Lectures:

Regular lectures at congresses of the Czech Society of Cardiology, Society of Internal Medicine, a working group of invasive cardioangiology, 4 lectures at congresses of European Society of Cardiology (1989, 1990, 1994, 1995), 1 lecture at the congress of American Heart Association (1995), 1 lecture at the World Congress of Cardiology (Berlin 1994), 4 lectures at congresses of interventional cardiology (Jerusalem and Peking 1995, Toulouse and Prague 1996). During the last 3 years he regularly chairs at least to one lecture section at the European Society of Cardiology, a member of Scientific Committee of European Society of Cardiology.


Pedagogical activities

Since 1984 residency teaching, lectures on internal medicine, optional lectures on cardiology, examining of rigorous and state final exams from internal medicine, lectures in a subdepartement of cardiology at the 1st Faculty of Medicine, postgraduate teaching of physician in the field of cardiology, examining of attestations at 1st Faculty of Medicine. Publication activities - chapters in textbooks, well-arranged articles, monographs.

Awards:

1987 - an annual award of the Czech Society of Cardiology for his collection of works with the topic hemodynamics and prognosis of patients with chronic postinfartcion aneurysm.

1995 - an annual award of Charles University for the best Scientific Book of the Year in 1995 - "Coronary angioplasty ".


1997 - an annual award of Charles University for the best Textbook of the Year for the collective of authors of the textbook Internal Medicine I-IV, the main author prof. MUDr. Pavel Klener, DrSc.


Priorities:


In 1976 the first endomycardial biopsy by a cathetrization method in Czechoslovakia and in countries of former Eastern Europe was carried out. This method has expanded mostly into the field of heart transplantations.


1988 - the first balloon angioplasty in General Teaching Hospital in Prague (As the third place in Czechoslovakia).


1995 - the first angioscopic examination of coronary arteries in the Czech Republic, 2nd Department of Internal Medicine of 1st Faculty of Medicine and General Teaching Hospital is the only place in this country where this method is carried out.
