What is atherosclerosis?
Atherosclerosis - is a disease of artheries in the whole organism. It is a complicated disease, which is running many years without any symptoms (however, the first symptoms of arteries affection can be proven already in childhood by sensitive examinational methods). Atherosclerotic manifestation - affection of vital organs (heart, brain, kidneys) - has far-reaching consequences not only health, but also economical, social, and ethical. More than a half of death of middle and old age people is still caused by atherosclerotic diseases! A lot of risk factors (RF) contribute adversely to the process of atherosclerosis. Majority of these RFs results from an improper life style - smoking, sedentary way of life, unbalanced diet, overweight. Everybody can influence these factors - by a change of life style. There are further RFs (high blood pressure, increased level of cholesterol in blood, changes on electrocardiogram (ECG) possibly others), on which a physician can alert you after a complex examination. Prevention means an early disease forestall. A preventive cardiological examination is designated for wide public, primarily for employees of the Academy of Sciences of CR, Charles University in Prague and University of Economics in Prague (preventive examination does not supply a care of people who are monitored and treated in any health institutions for their vascular diseases). We will help them to find out potential RFs of atherosclerosis and we will give them advice how to affect adverse RFs, and how to slow down the process of atherosclerosis. Data about examined people are stored in our database in an anonymous form and they are used (after signed informed agreement of an examined person) for solving several Czech and international projects about atherosclerosis problems and theri analyses. |
