Outpatient department of preventive cardiology

The cooperation among physicians, statisticians and computer scientists in the EuroMISE Centre is based on the long time lasting cooperation of the EuroMISE Centre with the General University Hospital in Prague and Municipal Hospital in Caslav, especially in cardiology.

During the last years of the 20^thcentury, a modern outpatient department in the building of the Institute of Computer Science of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic was built. Activities of the physicians and nurses in this department are focused primarily on preventive examinations with regards on atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases. Since the year 2001 another outpatient department of preventive cardiology has been runing in the Municipal Hospital in Caslav. Currently, both outpatient departments are administrated by the Municipal Hospital in Caslav.

Activities of both outpatient departments are interdisciplinary. From the medical point of view, we are able to determine the risks of atherosclerosis in a specific person on the bases of the outcomes of physical examinations, the registration of an electrocardiogram and basic laboratory tests. These findings are the background for our recommendations how to modify this risk, how to slow down the development of atherosclerosis and then how to defer the clinical complications of atherosclerosis (myocardial infarction, stroke, and others).

The obtained information - data - from examined persons are analysed in an anonymous form and they are used for further research tasks in the EuroMISE Centre. Existing statistical analyses from obtained data demonstrate very insufficient health status of the Czech population and demonstrate some differences between two cities (Prague and Caslav). Data are further used for designing of an electronic health record, the computerized systems for continual lifelong health care, electronic form of medical guidelines and for further projects.

Reservation for an examination in the outpatient department of preventive cardiology of the EuroMISE Centre

Here, you can book an examination in the outpatient department of preventive cardiology of the EuroMISE Centre, which is located in the premises of the Institute of Computer Science of the Academy of Sciences of CR, Pod Vodarenskou vezi 2, Prague 8. These physicians work in the outpatient department: head physician MuDr. Hana Grünfeldova, MuDr. Pavel Hanus, MuDr. Jan Peleska Ph.D. and MuDr. Marie Tomeckova Ph.D. Choose a term which suits you best and enter required data. The examination is carried out free of charge and it takes approximately an hour. The time mentioned in a Term item stands for the beginning of the examination.

Process of an examination:

We start with a conversation about your basic administrative data, including your contacts (phone, e-mail, fax).
We ask about basic data of your relatives (parents, siblings) - which year they were born, if they suffer with diabetes mellitus, high blood pressure, if they have had heart or cerebral diseases, if they have any other chronic diseases. In case that some of them have died - which year it was and what was the cause of death.
Further, we ask about your health problems, what other more serious diseases and surgeries have you gone through. We ask about your existing and contemporary therapy.
The next step is the examination by a physician and registration of electrocardiograph (ECG).
The examination is completed by the examination of blood sugar level and blood fats levels.
A discussion about seriousness of your risk of atherosclerotic disease is also a part of the examination. We give you specific advice how to lower your risk.
If needed, we will add further examinations (blood pressure monitoring, ECG monitoring, load ECG examination, possibly others.
