Postgraduate doctoral study of biomedicineBiomedical InformaticsThe scientific board of Biomedical Informatics was established in the year 2001 and it is realized by the First Faculty of Medicine of Charles University in Prague and by the Institute of Computer Science of Academy of Sciences CR. The Biomedical Informatics board is accredited by the Ministry of Education CR for education in Czech and English languages. The study can be either in an attendance form or in a combined form. This study is the highest available level in the educational complex of the First Faculty of Medicine, Charles University in Prague. It also opens possibilities of interdisciplinary doctoral study in biomedical informatics to graduates from other universities. The aim of the study it to master research methods and to obtain proficiency and knowledge necessary for independent research in the field of biomedical informatics. Research in biomedical informatics is an interdisciplinary research in the twilight zone between computer and biomedical sciences. Graduates can apply acquired knowledge as a scientific and managing specialists in healthcare, in the field of medical information systems, medical libraries, in management of hospital and medical organizations, in the field of telemedicine, and in biomedical research in all domains of this field (image analysis, biological signals analysis, biometry, biomedical statistics, information technology in medicine, modelling in biology and medicine, biomechanics, computer assisted biomedical decision support, databases and information systems in biomedicine and healthcare). This all can be realized in research institutes of the Academy of Sciences CR, in resort research institutions of the Ministry of Health CR and at universities. Acquired knowledge may be also applied in pedagogical and consulting activities or in the field of applied research in healthcare while fulfilling the objective of producing information society in healthcare, in companies dealing with the development and distribution of healthcare systems, production and distribution of medical technology and software for healthcare.
