Teaching and education activities of the EuroMISE CentreThe twelve-week interdisciplinary course of medical informatics, statistics and epidemiology was one of the first educational activities of the EuroMISE Centre. This course was held in the year 1994 with the support of the Tempus European Programme and the course was designed for Czech university teachers, physicians, and scientific workers. The official language of the course was English and it was run by renowned professionals from EU countries (France, Ireland, the Netherlands, Greece, and Great Britain). After successful completion of all study duties and after passing the final test the participants received the diploma in the Charles University Aula Magna (see picture). Subsequent six-week courses were focused either on medical informatics or medical statistics and epidemiology. The participants of these courses were not only Czech students but also students from Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Ireland, the Lebanon, Hungary, Poland, Romania, and Turkey. The lecturers were not only professionals from EU countries but also some graduates from the first EuroMISE course (see picture). During these courses a lot of English educational materials arose, not only in a textual but also in an electronic form. In the year 1996 the EuroMISE Centre became involved in another European project called IT EDUCTRA, where it participated in designing of multimedia educational materials in English and Czech versions and it developed the first version of the ExaMe system for evaluation of students' knowledge by means of Internet (picture). Educational and teaching activities of the EuroMISE Centre proceed in many courses of pregraduate, postgraduate and lifelong training and it led to creation of many electronic publications for educational and teaching needs. One of the most important activities of the EuroMISE Centre within the cooperation with the First Faculty of Medicine, Charles University in Prague and the Department of Medical Informatics, Institute of Computer Science AS CR, was the establishment of a new doctoral study programme of Biomedical Informatics. The postgraduate study of biomedicine is run by the contract between Charles University in Prague and the Academy of Sciences CR. Apart from the Biomedical Informatics scientific board the EuroMISE Centre is represented also in other scientific boards of postgraduate study of biomedicine, e.g. in Anthropology and Genetics scientific board (http://www.kav.cas.cz/pdsb).
