The workshop Modelling and Evaluation of Price Effectiveness was held on October 15th 2001. The main lecturer was MUDr. Lubor Goláň from the 2nd Department of Internal Medicine in General Teaching Hospital.
In an introductory word prof. Zvárová demonstrated on-line applications of guidelines for hypertension on www pages of the EuroMISE Centre – Cardio.
Evaluation of cost effectiveness serves for comparison of prices of treatment strategies in dependence on their effect. The central variable is evaluation of marginal cost effectiveness representing one gained year of life. Cost effectiveness is a relative variable and enables to compare two or more strategies.
Using computer models will facilitate the sensitivity analysis during which we can change values entering into the model.
Evaluation of cost effectiveness of many medicines and surgical strategies has been already published. This method is not very used in the Czech Republic but in the future it could play an important role for health politics of the state, insurance companies, hospitals but also for decision-making of physicians.
The practice part of the presentation was focused on examples of comparing several strategies and on demonstration of modelling on computer.
